League History Print

The NIBL is a South Asian organization that takes pride in its diverse cultures and promotes leadership within the surrounding community. Our goal is for our players to develop self-confidence, leadership qualities, social skills, and a belief in the potential and strength of their abilities.

This league was founded by Benji Mathew, Steve Joshy, Mickey Patel, Steve Cain, and Sandy Thomas back in 2001.

The team known as "MIA" won the first ever N.I.B.L. Championship in 2001. Down 2 games to 0, they made a comeback for the ages and won the first NIBL championship against the “Indians” which was managed by Benji Mathew.

The following season, the "Indians" team that had lost in 2001 against “MIA”, went on to win back to back titles in 2002 and 2003. They were managed by Steve Joshy and Mickey Patel.

The following season, a new team came into the fold called the "Gandha Nangas (GN)." They were managed by Vineet Arora.  The GN created a dynasty in NIBL by winning titles in 2004, 2005, and 2006.

The dynasty ended in 2007 when the Ikonz finally claimed the title after three previously unsuccessful trips to the World Series. The Ikonz went on to reach the finals again in 2008 going for back to back championships but were dethroned by the Titans in a classic 5 game series. The Titans were the first #4 seed in NIBL history to claim the championship. They look to be the third team ever to repeat as champions in 2009.
