Rules During Play
| Pitching / Batting |
- Each team will pitch to themselves,
overhand.
- Players will only get two (2) strikes
before being called out.
- All pitches thrown from the pitchers
mound toward home plate are considered to be in the strike zone. There
are no balls called.
- Pitches hitting the ground prior to
reaching home plate are still considered playable pitches.
- A foul or tipped ball on the first
pitch is considered a strike.
- A foul or tipped ball on the second
or any subsequent pitches is not considered a strike and the batter
will get another pitch.
- There is no limit to the number of
foul or tipped balls during an at-bat.
- Batters must take a full swing to count
as foul or tipped ball.
- A half or checked swing on the second
pitch will result in the second strike (at the umpire's discretion).
|
| Poison Rule |
Since the pitcher does not field, balls
that do not cross the infield base paths are subject to the poison rule.
Any batted ball coming to a complete
stop inside the infield basepaths can be ruled POISON upon the following
conditions:
- The ball is not touched by any defensive
player
- The catcher does not cross home plate
inside fair territory
- A defensive player yells "POISON"
once the ball has come to a complete stop
If the ball is touched by a defensive
player or the catcher crosses home plate before POISON is ruled, the ball
is considered a live ball.
- Each batter is allowed 1 POISON per
at-bat which will be counted the same as a foul or tipped ball.
- The second POISON during the same at-bat
will result in an automatic out.
|
| Sliding / Interference |
A runner going to second or third that
is forced out must not block the defensive player from making a throw
for a double play.
They are required to either slide, duck
or move out of the basepath. If the runner intentionally or otherwise
blocks the defensive player from making the throw, the batter will also
be considered out (at the umpire's discretion).
The batter or runner must make an effort
to not interfere with the defensive player's ability to catch a pop up.
If the runner intentially or otherwise interferes with the defender (i.e.
standing in the path, making contact with the fielder) the umpire may
call both the runner and batter automatically out.
|
| Steals / Lead Offs |
- There is no stealing or leading off.
The runners must maintain contact with the base until the ball is hit.
|
| 5 Run Limit |
Since teams pitch to themselves a run
limit is imposed per inning.
A team is allowed a maximum 5 runs per inning, with the following exceptions.
- A team that is behind by more than
5 runs going into the inning may score up to the number of runs necessary
to tie the score.
- If 4 runs have scored and runners are
on base, a homerun will count all runs (this can lead to 8 runs with
a grand slam).
- If 4 runs have scored and runners are
on base, if the ball is hit fair all runners may attempt to score.
- The defensive team must either
touch home plate with the ball to end the inning, or get the final
out if there are already two outs.
- Any runs scored prior to the defense
touching home with the ball will count.
The run limit is only imposed for the
first 8 innings. The run limit is removed for the 9th inning and both
teams may continue to score until 3 outs are made. |
| Contact at Home Plate |
- Runners attempting to score may make
reasonable contact with the catcher at home plate if the catcher is
blocking the plate.
- Contact is limited to running over
or through the catcher. Punches, kicks or an intent to cause harm will
result in the runner being called out and may result in further penalties
at the leagues discretion. Play hard but clean.
- In the interest of safety, be cautious
when attempting to run over the catcher.
|
| Not enough players |
Teams that are unable to field 9 players
may still play, however will be assessed a penalty as described below.
- One (1) out will be assesed for each
time the missing player would have come up to bat. This player would
be batting in the 9th spot.
- If the team is missing more than one
player, a maximum of one (1) out will be assessed for all missing players.
- If two players are missing, only
1 out will be assessed for both the 8th and 9th spots, not one out
per spot.
- This rule must be enforced by the umpires
and cannot be overruled on the field by the managers or teams playing.
|
| Rounding Bases |
- Runners must touch all bases in order
for the run to count.
- Players hitting a homerun must round
all bases in order for their run to count
|
| Helmets |
- For safety reasons, all pitchers must
wear helmets.
- "Really? But I look stupid with
a helmet." - See Below
|
| Homeruns / Fence Rule |
- Any ball striking the yellow plastic on the
top of the fence in fair territory will count as a home-run regardless
of whether the ball goes over the fence or lands inside the playing
field.
- The umpire will make the ruling based on the
distinct sound made when the ball strikes the yellow plastic.
- This ruling applies to balls striking the yellow
portion of the fence in fair territory.
