Titans vs Ikonz - World Series Game 5 (TITANS WIN)

As went the regular season, so went the 2008 Semi Finals in 5 games, so went the 2008 NIBL World Series in 5 games. The Titans have taken their time to close things out all season, but they've gotten it done every time. But when Game 5 came around, the Titans were not about to close this game out slowly. From the outset they came out and pounded the Ikonz for the first 5 innings offensively and defensively. The Ikonz did not know what hit them. Before they knew it, they saw the Titans celebrating their first ever championship and they were left to ponder what went wrong. The Titans won their first ever World Series title, topping the Ikonz, 34-15, in Game 5. Their organization came into the league in 2004. Now the current crop of Titans has the one thing that marks them among the best ever in the league: a World Series championship.

The much-maligned Titans, the team that came into the World Series with the second-worst record of any World Series participant, played poised baseball for a solid 5 games -- and truthfully, throughout all of the postseason. The defending champs, meanwhile, hurt themselves repeatedly especially in Game 5 defensively. The Titans found holes. The Ikonz stumbled into them. The Titans played better defense than the Ikonz. The Titans took better, longer, more composed at-bats. And when faced with adversity - they responded. In short, the titans played like they'd been here before. And in many cases, they had. Six of the 16 players on the Titans active roster had appeared in at least one previous World Series. The leaders of this team showed the necessary heart and determination to get their team their first title. What does 2009 hold for both of these teams? Could they be going in different directions? Only time will tell.

Titans vs Ikonz - World Series Game 4 (Titans Win)

With their backs against the wall, the Titans looked to come out strong and avoid elimination. They did not disappoint as they played with a sense of urgency and focus. The Ikonz had some lackluster hitting as they left many men on base, partly due to smart defensive plays by the Titans. This game was close in score but on the field it looked as if the Titans were in control they whole way. Winning this game and evening the series, the Titans have set the stage for a winner-take-all game five versus the defending champion Ikonz.

Titans vs Ikonz - World Series Game 3 (Ikonz Win)

Coming off an emotional high scoring affair, both teams looked to take an advantage in the pivotal game three. Somebody forgot to tell the Ikonz that they had been behind all series long! Once again showing that they can score with the best of them, they convincingly took back home field advantage. Playing their most complete game of the series, they also held the Titans to only 19 runs. The defending champs are now one win away from repeating! Will they show that game one was a fluke or are the Titans going to put up a fight in game four.

Titans vs Ikonz - World Series Game 2 (Ikonz Win)

Looking to steal another game from the defending champs, the Titans perhaps put on their best offensive display in the playoffs! Scoring at will, it looked like this game was going to be the statement game that the Titans were unstoppable when scoring more than 30 runs. Little did they know the Ikonz were capable of adapting to whatever style they needed to. The Ikonz never quit although being down by 12 runs as late as into the 7th inning! They took a page out of the Titans book by belting 9 homeruns! Having fun and playing loose, the Ikonz scored 20 runs in the 7th and 8th innings to completely wipe out any lead the Titans had. And in Ikonz fashion they played great defense in the one inning that counted to hold the Titans scoreless in the ninth to even the series.

Titans vs Ikonz - World Series Game 1 (Titans Win)

After making quick work of their first round matchup with the Rebels, the defending champion Ikonz made it back to familiar territory, the World Series! On the other side, the very competitive and volatile five game series consisted of the best team, the number one seeded Badmash losing to the lower fourth seeded yet surging Titans. The stage was set as the World Series featured the best defensive team versus the best offensive team. The only question was which team would be able to play both sides of the ball? The Titans answered right away as they put on a defensive display that even the Ikonz could be proud of. Playing their best defensive game all year and adding five homeruns from five different people, the Titans made this a lopsided victory as the Ikonz were never in this game. Whether they were rusty or just not prepared after their long layoff, the Ikonz were not the team we are accustomed to watching.
